5 ton explosion-proof special type electric locomotive, explored and manufactured by our works who take a leading role in the field has filled the gap of explosion-proof special electric locomotive in our country. It is divided into stepped and stepless speed regulation. Our works take a leading in adopting the new technology-thyristor chopper speed regulation on the locomotive with stepless speed regulation, the main characteristics is of reasonable structure, reliable explosion proof performance, smooth starting, energy consumption reducing. The main technical index has reached the same level of similar products from home and abroad. It has won the praise from the former M. M. B. I Ministry of Coal industry and the State many times, and gained silver medal awarded by the state in 1985. The stepped speed regulation is realized through the adoption of the battery in series and parallel, motor in series and parallel and field weakening.
